We just got back from a week-long stay at Sunny Days Mirette Family Resort in Hurghada, and I wanted to share an honest review for anyone planning a trip here. Overall, we had a really good vacation, but like any 3-star resort in Egypt, it has its quirks. If you manage your expectations, you will have a wonderful time! 📍 Location & Getting Around. The hotel is located a bit away from the super noisy center, which we actually liked because it was quieter at night. A taxi to El Dahar (the old downtown market) took only about 10 minutes and cost around 100-150 Egyptian pounds if you bargain well. 🛏️ The Room. We stayed in a standard room in the older section of the complex. The Good: It was surprisingly spacious, the king-sized bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning worked like a lifesaver (trust me, the July heat in Hurghada is no joke!). The Catch: The furniture is definitely dated and shows signs of wear and tear. Our bathroom had a bit of an old-school tiled shower, and the water pressure fluctuated during peak evening hours. But honestly, we only slept and showered there, so it didn't ruin our trip. Just bring your own conditioner because the hotel soap is pretty basic. 🌊 Beach & Pools. This is where Mirette shines, especially for the price! Even though Mirette is the second line, guests have access to the main Sunny Days El Palacio beach area across the street (there is a handy underpass/pathway or a short walk). The Red Sea water was crystal clear and warm like bathwater. We spent hours snorkeling near the breakwater and saw so many colorful little fish right off the shore. The main pool at Mirette is quieter if you just want to relax on a lounger with a book, but we preferred heading to the larger pools by the sea for the daytime animation and music. Not related to the hotel itself, but I also wanted to share a fantastic local recommendation for anyone planning excursions in Hurghada. We booked our trips through Sheriff Egypt, a local agency that you can easily find by name online. Their prices are significantly lower than what the hotel guides charge, and the organization was top-notch! We especially recommend their Cairo tour in a small group (up to eight people) with a private guide, as well as the Super Safari. Their guides speak fluent, great English and made the experience truly unforgettable. Highly recommended! 🍽️ Food & Drinks. Let's talk about the buffet. It’s decent, but repetitive by day four. Breakfast: Loved the station where they make fresh Egyptian ful medames and omlets on demand. The local bread was always warm and fresh. Lunch & Dinner: There was always a good rotation of rice, pasta, grilled chicken, and beef dishes. My husband especially liked the Egyptian-style baked fish and the fresh salad bar. However, the dessert table can get chaotic during peak hours because everyone rushes for the cakes. Drinks: Standard local-brand all-inclusive drinks. The wine is served only at dinner and comes straight from a box (not great, to be honest), so we mostly stuck to iced cola, local beer, and simple rum-and-cokes by the pool bar. Tip the bartenders a couple of pounds ($1 USD) occasionally, and they will remember your favorite drinks for the rest of the week! 🌟 Service & Atmosphere. The staff really makes this place special. Everyone from the reception desk to the gardeners and waiters was polite, greeted us with a smile, and never acted pushy for tips—unlike some other resorts we've visited. Our room cleaner even made fun towel art (swans and crocodiles) on the bed every morning, which made us smile. 👍 Pros & 👎 Cons. Pros: Great value for money, access to the stunning Red Sea beach at the sister property, friendly staff, great air conditioning, lively atmosphere. Cons: Rooms and bathrooms are tired and need renovation, Wi-Fi in the rooms is very weak (you better buy a local Orange or Vodafone SIM card at the airport), and the dining room gets crowded. Final Verdict. Would we come back? Yes, absolutely. If you are looking for a luxury 5-star ultra-all-inclusive palace with marble lobbies, look elsewhere and pay triple the price. But if you want a budget-friendly beach getaway with great weather, warm Red Sea water, and friendly vibes, Sunny Days Mirette is a solid choice. Just pack some snacks, a good mood, and enjoy the sun!
