Отель получил свое имя в честь Первого баронета Бристоля, протестантского Епископа Бристоля, который жил в 18-ом столетии. Его имя совместили с именем всемирноизвестного художника Бернини, автора Фонтан Тритона на Базарной площади. Среди прославленных лиц посетивших отель в разное время можно назвать Императора Бразилии дона Педро II, прусского Императора Фредерика II, Екатерину Великую, Принцессу Уэльскую и Королеву Англии.
