Poseidon Villa Chania

Poseidon Villa is a four bedroom villa which can sleep up to 8 persons (12 with extra beds) in the seaside resort of Maleme in western Crete. The villa is enclosed by a stone built wall in its own grounds of approximately one and a half acres, just 50mts or so back from the sea.

Malemehas hundreds ofolive trees, oranges,tangerines and lemon trees and the locals are known for their Cretan hospitality and willingness to help. It has a well-organized tourism infrastructure but is a quieter resort than nearby lively Platanias. Having said that, there are plenty of bars and restaurants, especially by the sea where you can have a lunch after a swim, or enjoy dinner watching the beautiful sunset. There is also a pharmacy, a supermarket and a mini market, a bakery and a souvenir shop so basic needs are covered by a few shops.

A frequent bus service runs to Chania, a beautiful town with a cosmopolitan atmosphere and a 'must' see for any visitor to western Crete. The Venetian harbor is a sight to behold with little fishing boats bobbing up and down on the water in the eastern side, while the waterfront on the western side has an abundance of cafes and restaurants ranging from traditional to chic.

Narrow, picturesque and characteristic streets with a splendid array of shops, boutiques, small cafes and tavernas leadoff behind the waterfront. Theotokopoulou St. is one not to be missed with its characteristic Venetian buildings and ornate balconies.

The beach at Maleme is part pebble and part shingle and is far less crowded than the beaches of nearby Agia Marina and Platanias. It is one of the beaches of Municipality of Platanias which have been awarded Blue Flag, the official certificate for clean and safe beaches. There is an excellent pedestrian road that runs along the beach and is perfect for an evening stroll. From the beach, you can see Theodorou or Agioi Theodoroi, an uninhabited island and a preservation area for the Cretan wild goat.

Maleme is also an excellent starting point for further exploration of western Crete whether your interest is archaeological, walking, cycling, or simply relaxing and enjoying some of the wonderful beaches.

Inside the villa, steps lead to the first floor of this two-story air-conditioned villa where the entrance door leads to a large comfortable lounge. At one end of the lounge, there is a fireplace, a large mirror, a fitment, a CD player, a coffee table, and a couple of easy chairs. The dining table and 8 chairs are in the center of the lounge area, and at the opposite end of the living room, there are 2 sofas, an easy chair, a 42inch Sat TV, DVD player, and a coffee table.

Patio doors at each end of the living room lead to a long sea facing terrace of which one side is furnished with 2 sofas and a coffee table and the other side with a table and 4 chairs.

The kitchen is separated from the living room by a breakfast bar with 4 stools. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a 4 hob ceramic cooker, an oven with grill, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishwasher, kitchen utensils, and a table and six chairs.

The first floor also has a bedroom with a double bed, bedside table and lamp, air conditioning unit, a balcony, and there is also a bathroom with a bath & hand held the shower, a W.C., a washbasin, and a washing machine.

Marble stairs lead up to the upper level where there are three bedrooms (two with twin beds and one with a double bed) and a bathroom with a bath & hand held shower, a W.C., and a washbasin. Each bedroom has a wardrobe, bedside table(s) with a lamp, and air conditioning. The front double bedroom has a large sea facing furnished terrace covered with a pergola and has a couple of sun loungers, and a table & 4 chairs. The twin bedrooms have a balcony.

The outside of the villa has 2 large lawns and at the bottom of the garden is a pergola with garden furniture. By the side of the villa is a covered built-in BBQ and a wood oven, and a cupboard with utensils, crockery etc.
Note: each bedroom can accommodate a fold-away bed measuring 90cms x 2mts. Extra tables/chairs can be provided inside the villa when necessary.
