Athinais Villa

Villa Athinais is a comfortable 3bedroom / 4bathroom villa with an additional lower floor open plan studio and sleeps up to 6 persons & 2 children. It is located in the countryside close to Pano Gerani in the hills above the coastal village of Gerani in the Chania region of western Crete and is perfect for couples and families, and also perhaps where teenagers are looking for some independence.

The attractive quality villa has spectacular views of the Cretan sea reaching as far as the Akrotiri Peninsula and the island of Theodorou as well as the White Mountains to the south. It is privately tucked away from hustle and bustle and at the same time enjoys easy access to nearby sea side resorts ranging from highly developed Platanias, to the much lesser developed Tavronitis, with everything else in between.

Pano Gerani sits inland and is a small traditional village whereas the coastal village has seen some development on the outskirt over the past few years in terms of hotels and apartments, though overall it remains quiet with a couple of supermarkets, a butcher, a bakery, and a handful of restaurants and café bars. The Blue Flag pebbly beach is organized in parts, and even in high season you can find quieter spots on the beach.

Chania city is only 14km away where the Venetian harbour is a sight to behold with little fishing boats bobbing up and down on the water on the eastern side while the waterfront on the western side has an abundance of cafes and restaurants ranging from local to chic. Narrow, picturesque and characteristic streets with a splendid array of shops, boutiques, small cafes and tavernas lead off behind the waterfront. Theotokopoulou St. is one not to be missed with its characteristic Venetian buildings with ornate balconies. A visit to Chania should be near the top of any list of things to see and do whilst in the area.

There is easy access to the national road which makes the location an excellent starting point for further exploration of western Crete as you drive through stunning scenery and head towards the mountains, or perhaps drive to some of the wonderful more well-known sandy beaches such as Falasarna or Elafonissi on the west coast. The area lends itself to archaeological interest, walking and cycling, or perhaps you just want to laze away the days by the villas splendid pool.

The 200m² villa is built on 3 levels and has well-tended greenery and an inviting pool area. Steps may make it unsuitable for the infirm.

Each of the three air conditioned bedrooms on the upper floor has a colourful yet soft décor, modern paintings, attractive wooden floors, and an en suite with shower. Both the master bedroom with a king sized bed and another double bedded room feature a TV and they also share a shaded furnished terrace with views of the pool, the mountains, and the sea. The double bedded bedroom has its own balcony with mountain and sea views.

Stairs lead down to the middle floor that houses the main open plan air conditioned living room/kitchen as well as a WC. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with a 4 hob ceramic cooker and oven, a filter coffee machine, fridge/freezer, toaster, sandwich maker, kettle, dishwasher, juicer, microwave oven, utensils, and a breakfast table & 4 chairs.

The lounge area has a table and chairs for 8 persons, a fireplace, two sofas, a coffee table, TV, an easy chair, and doors that open on to a terrace furnished with comfortable outdoor lounge furniture overlooking the pool. A few steps lead from the middle floor to the inviting 40m² pool (depth 1.65mt-1.75mt) which has an adjoining 10m² childrens section (depth 57cm). The pool can be heated on request at an extra cost of 60e per day (subject to change). The surrounding sun terrace extends to a lawn and is furnished with 8 sun loungers & 3 umbrellas.

From the middle floor stairs lead to the ground floor open plan studio which is painted in attractive bold colours. The kitchen is equipped with a 4 hob ceramic cooker and oven, an Espresso coffee machine, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, a washing machine, iron & ironing board, and a breakfast seating two persons.

The living area has a single and a double sofa bed (1.40mt x 1.9mt and 1.60mt x 2mt respectively), a bookcase with several books and magazines, coffee table, a stereo system, DVD player, and a TV. A mini gym with a treadmill, Pilates ball, and weights is also housed in the open plan space. The attractive boldly coloured tiled bathroom has a Jacuzzi bath.

Large glass doors lead from the studio to a lawn with a childrens playground and a covered patio with a built in BBQ and dining table with 6 chairs making it perfect for al fresco dining. The lawn, which can also can also be accessed by steps from the pool, has outdoor furniture and is surrounded by a well-tended garden of trees, shrubs and flowers. Fresh seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs can also be hand-picked from the vegetable garden.

The villa is operational all year round and a minimum stay of 7 nights is required for bookings in June through to September. Please note that this villa has an indoor no smoking policy.
